Admissions Appeals
Our Admissions Appeals Approach
We understand that occasionally unsuccessful applicants to SuMS may wish to receive feed back on why their application to join us has not been successful. We encourage any applicants in this situation to seek informal feedback from us, before lodging a formal appeal, by emailing admissions@surreymathsschool.co.uk.
Our Admissions Appeal process is open to applicants to Surrey Maths School whose application to the school is rejected and who wish to appeal against the decision. For the avoidance of doubt, this process is not open to applicants who accept a conditional offer and subsequently fail to meet the conditions of that offer.
SuMS will ensure in all cases that appellants are treated fairly and impartially. Individuals involved in the decision-making process will not be part of the appeals process.
Admissions Appeals
Admissions appeals may be made to the Chair of the Governing Body.
Before submitting an appeal, please read our Admissions Appeals Procedure.
To submit an appeal, you will need to complete our online Admissions Appeal Form. You can find a downloadable PDF of the form here.
16 to 19 Academies
Surrey Maths School is a 16 to 19 Academy.
16 to 19 Academies are educational institutions rather than schools. Because of this they are not required to comply with the School Admissions Code. Their admission arrangements do need to be fair, objective and transparent. Please see the DfE guidance here.
In addition to not being required to comply with the School Admissions Code, SuMS is not required to comply with the School Admissions Appeal Code, which do not apply to 16 to 19 Academies. Please see the Gov.UK information here.
