Our 16-19 Bursary Fund

The SuMS 16 to 19 Bursary Fund provides financial support to help students overcome specific barriers to participation so that they can remain in education.

There are two types of financial support offered via the 16-19 Bursary:

Vulnerable Bursary

Vulnerable Bursary awarded to students in defined vulnerable groups set out in the Surrey Maths School Bursary Policy. These students are identified as:

  • Currently in care, care leavers, in receipt of Income Support, or Universal Credit in their own right
  • In receipt of Employment and Support Allowance; and Disability Living or Personal Independence Payments, in their own right

Discretionary Bursary

Discretionary Bursary awarded to meet the financial needs of students who may need some additional funding set out in the Surrey Maths School Bursary Policy. These students are typically identified as:

  • Living in households of less than £32,450 net income
  • Levels of household debt limits spend on educational resources for the student
  • Family in receipt of Tax Credits/Income Support/Universal Credit
  • Receive Free School Meals

The 16 to 19 Bursary is awarded based on an individual’s needs to help remove any barriers to education. There can be no block payment of funds but assistance can be given to help with transport costs or educational resources if these are identified as barriers to learning due to financial reasons.

Once the value of each bursary is established, a personalised, costed learning plan will be set up to support the specific needs of each student. This will be written and managed by the Finance Manager.

We recommend that you look at our SuMS Bursary Policy to see if you may be eligible for financial support. If you are unsure please contact info@surreymathsschool.co.uk

Students wishing to reapply can simply provide a signed and dated self-declaration form to confirm that their household circumstances have not changed.
