Outreach

Outreach is a core role for Surrey Maths School. We aim to build an outreach programme that supports developments in mathematical sciences and complements existing maths outreach provision and responds to the needs of local schools.

Working with the University of Surrey, our outreach programme will target the following three key areas:

  • To improve the diversity of students who go on to study mathematics at a higher level, by:

    • improving the proportion of girls taking part in STEM subjects post-16
    • improving social mobility via identifying able mathematicians from disadvantaged backgrounds
  • To inspire students to engage with the mathematical sciences and to provide support for students throughout their education

  • To facilitate discussions and CPD aimed at improving the quality of teaching and learning in mathematical sciences by:

    • working to improve maths outcomes in schools with weak progression and high proportions of disadvantaged students
    • working with schools with low conversion rates from GCSE to A level maths
    • delivering CPD for teachers of the mathematical sciences to extend and inspire teaching at A level

For details of any forthcoming outreach programmes, please take a look at the Primary, Secondary and For Teachers pages in this section.

Enrichment Sources

We are keen to support any student that has a passion for maths and STEM subjects, even if they are not students at SuMS.

This page is intended to signpost organisations that we believe provide high-quality learning opportunities. We will regularly be adding to this list, so please do check back from time to time!
